Assistant Professor, Health Psychology – University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Psychology
The University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Psychology seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Health Psychology, broadly defined, starting in August 2025. We are seeking an educator who is passionate about teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, and who brings creative, student-centered, and evidence-based approaches to the classroom.
The successful candidate will also have a scholarly interest in collaborating with students and colleagues on behavioral health related research. Applicants from any subdiscipline of psychology with expertise in behavioral health, wellness, or related topics are welcome to apply.
Position Highlights:
Teach and develop an undergraduate course in health psychology and potentially other areas of interest; engage in collaborative research with students and faculty, with support for interdisciplinary research efforts; access to modern research facilities, including a
psychoneuroendocrinology lab, a biometrics lab, and an individual lab space; and faculty development funds available to support research initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field by August 2025 and demonstrated potential for excellence in both teaching and research required. ABDs with evidence of degree completion by that time will also be considered.
The Department of Psychology offers a collegial and collaborative environment with 11 tenured faculty members representing a broad spectrum of psychological subfields. We serve approximately 400 undergraduate majors, along with students from various other academic programs. We have an innovative curriculum emphasizing applied psychology that we would like to continue developing. As part of a college that includes several behavioral health-related disciplines, we offer rich opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. While our primary focus as a regional, public university is teaching, we support and encourage faculty to engage in impactful scholarship and service.
